I think that the death mask of Pakal is important to their culture because youth is essential. Since he is a great lord he should always look young. I also think that the eyes of the death mask are significant because the way it was built, depicts that this lord is watching everyone!
ReplyDeleteThe Tikal seems really special to the Mayan culture because it was the first target of a conquering army from central Mexico. It must be pretty sacred if another country tried to invade it.
The first time I took it, I was definitely not great yet the second time I took it, I got a 100 :).
1) the picture of the woman that is personified as a cacao tree was probably showing the importance of the cacao beans, which was used as currency.
ReplyDelete2) the picture of the headpiece that resembles a eagle, shows the importance of animals to the mayans, they probably believed that a human should be fas and swift as an animal.
1) the solar effigy is a great stucco mask, old polychrome decorated the Temple of the Masks Kohunlich. These sculptures, which are intact, dating back to the beginning of the classical period and resemble pyramids adorning UaxactĂșn or closing.
ReplyDelete2) the Temple of the Masks dates from the dawn of the classical period. On the west side has some great faces that were once polychrome stucco. These masks are arranged in four levels on both sides of an axial steps.
1. The death mask of Pakal: I believe that the mask Pacal expanded Palenque's power in the western part of the Maya states. He was preceded as ruler of Palenque by his mother Lady Zac-Kuk. And after his death, Pacal the Great was worshiped as a god, and said to communicate with his descendants. The lid of Pacal's tomb, referred to by some as The lid of Palenque, is the most photographed, reproduced and written about stone work of its kind.
ReplyDelete2. The Mayan Ball Game: It was very important! The ball game was very sacred to the Mayans. It was an extension of their religion. The game may have been a reenactment of the Mayan myth of the Hero Twins. In the myth, the Hero Twins had to battle the gods of death from the underworld by playing a ball game. The game would be played in an I shaped court, approximately 25 feet wide, by 75 feet long. The ball was six inches in diameter and made out of rubber. The players would wear an arm protector and a hip protector while playing to protect themselves from the ball. The ball is believed to represent the moon and the sun and the court represents the earth. The ball was kept in the air, just as the sun and the moon were always in the sky. Many warriors and Kings played the game fiercely. In some cases the loser would be killed, and would have their heads displayed in front of the court.
